ADVENTURE - an exciting or very unusual experience
I've always liked a good adventure!
Being a mom is definitely an adventure!
Never a dull moment!
Exciting!
Unusual!
I have never experienced anything like it before!
You can prepare for an adventure by listening to others who have gone through a similar experience but once you get out there in it you find yourself taking one step at a time, learning as you go.
Motherhood is that kind of an adventure!
We have gleaned from other mothers but there is still lots to learn.
We are learning as we go!
Here are 5 things that I have found to be helpful as my day revolves around our baby girl!
1. We mothers often open our day with changing a wet diaper. It may not seem like a very positive way to start off the day...but it really is! Taking care of our baby's basic needs is a great way to open the day!
I have found it very helpful, at the beginning of the day, to set up a diaper changing station.
Cloth diapers take some time to assemble...it is a but stressful to be trying to but together a cloth diaper while you have a distressed baby who desperately wants to get changed. Changing is quick and easy if I have prepared the cloth diapers ahead of time!
2. Moms are super women and can do amazing feats one-handed but sometimes it is a challenge to get things done around the house when baby is crying and needs to be held. I have found it very helpful to make a list with one column for tasks that I can do while holding the baby and another with those I need both hands for. Make sure you do not do the things you can do while holding baby while she is happy being in her swing, exercising on the floor or taking a nap. Tackle the things you can't do while holding her during those times!
PS!! Don't forget about your Baby Carrier!
3. You would think that with a baby there would be no time to sit down and enjoy reading a book. The funny thing is, before Jael was born I could not find time to read, but now I read everyday and love it!
Nursing is a great opportunity to sit down with a book or journal or type an e-mail to a friend!
You can get a lot accomplished in 20 minutes 8 times a day!
4. You think the laundry machine eats your socks? Well....baby socks are its favorite! There is a solution! Wash baby socks in a Mess Laundry Bag! No more little sock snacks for that machine!
5. Probably one of the most important things I have discovered the past few months is not to let it bother me that I can't get everything done around the house as I could before Jael arrived. It is more important to take care of and spend time with my little girl!
Enjoy the adventure of motherhood, one day at a time!
